Atlanta Braves Mike Foltynewicz Gives Update To Fans On His Condition
By Jeff Schafer
Atlanta Braves pitcher, Michael Foltynewicz, had to be taken to the emergency room on Friday because he was experiencing swelling and redness in his arm. On Monday, he had surgery to remove half of one of his ribs because of blood clots.
He had to have the front part of his first rib removed in a procedure performed at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Georgia.

The Braves Assistant General Manager, John Coppolella told Braves beat writer Mark Bowman that the cause of this is unknown, but the doctors have reason to believe it was related to Foltynewicz recent DL stint. The 23-year-old went on the DL in early September for pneumonia.
“We’re just trying to evaluate where it would go from here,” Copploella told reporters. “Our first and foremost thoughts are just for his health and that he is OK. As we keep going through this, we should learn more going forward.”
So far we’ve heard little about the success of the surgery, but reports from ESPN are that the Braves are expecting him to be released from the hospital on Thursday and will continue a treatment of blood thinners for at least six weeks. This will undoubtably put Folty out for the remainder of the 2015 season.
Foltynewicz went on Twitter and Instagram this morning and updated fans on his health.
His words on social media…
"Another thank you to my friends, family and FANS for all their kind words and positive energy and support over these last 3-4 days! I feel a ton better and am ready to get on the road back to recovery soon and get back to the thing I love doing the most! #bravescountry #chopnation"
We wish Folty a speedy recovery and we’re all looking forward to him getting back on the mound for the Atlanta Braves in 2016.
