Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The Atlanta Braves defeated the top seeded team in the NL East, the New York Mets, on Tuesday evening.  The Braves bounced back from being down 1-0 in the bottom of the 1st inning to score four runs in the 5th.  The Braves added two more runs in the 9th to secure the victory.  No one in the Braves lineup had a multi hit game, but Hector Olivera did hit a three-run homer in the 5th.  The Mets walked Nick Markakis to get to Olivera…that didn’t work out for Terry Collins…check out what he had to say about that decision after the game.

Atlanta Braves: Is Fredi Gonzalez in the hot seat?

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The Braves sit at 61-91 for the 2015 season after a huge offseason transformation to the roster and a huge drop-off in the second half of the season.  Manager Fredi Gonzalez’s name has been brought up by many as to being on the “hot seat”, but I don’t think he is.  Braves will try to give him a better team and another year in 2016.  If things don’t improve, we’ll have a new manager when we walk into the new stadium in 2017.

"The fifth-year Braves manager has made do with the roster assembled this offseason by the Braves front office. In an attempt to rebuild the Atlanta roster with young talent and new players, Atlanta traded away familiar faces such as Melvin Upton Jr., Justin Upton, Craig Kimbrel, Jayson Heyward and Evan Gattis this offseason. The Braves have sorely missed their production."

"Kimbrel has recorded 37 saves for the San Diego Padres this season, Gattis has slugged 26 homeruns and 85 RBIs for the Houston Astros and Heyward is hitting .288 with 23 stolen bases and 12 homeruns for the MLB-best St. Louis Cardinals. It was clear that 2015 was intended as a rebuilding year and now the Braves are simply suffering the consequences."

"How can Gonzalez receive all of the criticism? Even if the Braves have underachieved with the talent that the roster does feature according to normative standards, the failing situation is to blame rather than Gonzalez. For example, Shelby Miller has not won a game in 23 starts. With a 3.65 ERA during the winless streak, it is clear that the lack of run support and hitting production has majorly affected his misfortune. The same applies for Freddie Freeman, who has turned in a solid 2015 season, but has seen his hitting statistic drop since last year because of an absence of protection in the Atlanta lineup."

Baseball legend Yogi Berra dies at 90

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Yogi Berra played 19 MLB seasons from 1946 to 1965 (didn’t play in 1964) for the Yankees and the Mets.  He spent 18 seasons with the New York Yankees as their catcher and outfielder.  The 5’7″ 185 pound ball player was the MVP of the league three times in 1951, 1954 and 1955.  He was selected to the Hall of Fame in 1972.  Tuesday, we lost a terrific baseball player and a legend of our sport.

"The Yogi Berra Museum announced that the Hall of Fame catcher had died on Tuesday evening."

"Berra spent almost all of his 19-year career with the New York Yankees. He was a three-time Most Valuable Player and 13-time World Series champion."

"His famous “Yogi-ism” quotes included “it ain’t over till it’s over”."
