Atlanta Braves News: The Morning Chop, Box Score, Shelby Miller’s Season
By Jeff Schafer
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The Atlanta Braves went to Miami with some confidence after taking two of three against the first place New York Mets. The Braves left Miami swept under the rug. During the three game series, the Braves lost 12-11, 6-2 and 9-5. The Braves have their final off-day in 2015 on Monday and then will take on the Nationals and Cardinals to complete the season. A positive from the weekend was Olivera having five hits in nine at-bats. His average now sits at .264 for 2015.

Marlins defeat Braves 9-5 in home finale
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The Miami Marlins swept the Atlanta Braves this weekend as they defeated the Braves on Sunday 9-5. The Braves now hold a 62-94 record with six games remaining. The possibility of losing 100 games is still active as the Braves have the Washington Nationals and the St. Louis Cardinals. I think the Braves will at least win one game in the final six and not end the 2015 season with 100 losses. The final six games are at Turner Field.
"The Marlins continued their strong September by defeating the Atlanta Braves on Sunday at Marlins Park. They are now a league-best 16-8 this month.“Very happy,” Marlins manager Dan Jennings said.“Excellent home stand. Great way to close out our season at home, winning nine out of 11 to allow us to have a winning record at home. Just so proud of the way these men have responded and how they’re playing down the stretch. … It’s fun to watch.”"
Shelby Miller’s terrible luck, by the numbers
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: When baseball sabermetrics folks talk about how much wins and losses don’t mean anything about a pitcher, a perfect example is Shelby Miller. He has a record of 5-17 for the 2015 season with a 3.10 ERA and a 1.267 WHIP. At times this season, Miller has been dominate on the mound. Though recently he has fallen back a little. On Sunday, he gave up seven hits, seven runs (only four were earned runs) a walk and only had two strikeouts. Miller is probably the most excited about this season coming to a close. He’ll most likely have one more start in 2015 and it should come against the St. Louis Cardinals…is former team.
"If you know a little about Greek mythology, you might think that Shelby Miller‘s 2015 season resembles the plight of Sisyphus, who was condemned for eternity to roll a boulder uphill, only to watch it roll back down again and again.Miller, like the king of Ephyra, has done an inordinate amount of heavy lifting this season, with little to show for it. The 24-year-old right-hander has come up empty over the past four months because of a stunning lack of run support, providing just the latest example that little or no value should be placed on a starting pitcher’s win-loss record. That argument was a component of the 2010 American League Cy Young Award debate when Seattle’s Felix Hernandez posted a 2.27 ERA and deservedly walked away with the hardware despite posting a 13-12 record."
