Twitter is an interesting place. For the baseball fan, it’s spectacular, for it’s well-suited to burst out quick information in a hurry – whether that’s a unique stat, a question, a trade, a rumor, or… some sort of comment.
Baseball players use twitter to varying degrees and purposes. Chipper Jones (@RealCJ10) uses it to rant about baseball issues… and deer hunting. @JustinVerlander pretty much comments on anything that comes to mind – but mostly about baseball. And some golf. @DavidPrice14 tweets like he’s a fan of both baseball and people. I expect he is.
If you’d like to follow the current Braves on twitter, though, it’s a mixed bag: here is the current depth chart (more-or-less) with twitter accounts added (click to embiggen):

Those in red letters do not have a twitter account – or at least not at active one that we’re aware of. The oddity here is that pitchers almost universally have a presence on twitter – hitters are mostly the opposite. That includes Pedro Ciriaco‘s lone tweet ever and that Nick Markakis might have an account. If so, it’s either named ‘@NickMarkakis’ (created in 2009… but has never been used) or ‘@NickOrioles21’ (from July 2014 – 1 tweet)… despite a half-dozen fan/parody accounts supporting him.
Twitter follows of players are occasionally helpful for confirming rumors that we get… although it’s equally possible that certain player-related follows might also get us into trouble. Witness the time from last Spring when Freddie Freeman‘s wife tweeted out ‘Bye bye #23′ and half of Braves’ Country though that Chris Johnson had suddenly been traded. Nah – she had just turned 24.
Ah, the Internet… a wonderful toy… but be careful with that. Also, how about considering giving us a follow here at TomahawkTake.com: we’ll continue to do our best to bring you our best ideas on what the Braves are doing – and why. Thanks!
