Everyone has heard of the Rawlings’ Gold Glove Awards (shown above).  But if they actually represented what they purport to be all about, then there would be no need for the Fielding Bible.

2015 represents the 10th season of the Fielding Bible Awards, and for third straight year, Andrelton Simmons has been cited by the group as their winner among major league shortstops… and note that this is not a league-by-league award:  this is the overall winner for the majors.

In 2013, Simmons was a unanimous pick for the award, beating out Elvis Andrus by a whopping 120 points to 73.  In 2014?  Another unanimous selection, this time by a 120-105 margin over nearly-a-unanimous-second-placing Zack Cozart.

In 2015: yeah… nobody votes against Andrelton.  120-108 over Brandon Crawford, who was named at second place on every ballot.  Former Braves’ farmhand Nick Ahmed of the Diamondbacks finished third this year.

12 ballots were involved with voters ranking 10 players at each position.  Here are the voters:

Next: Okay, I'm Scared Now

The Rawlings awards will be handed out next week, and it’s certainly possible that Simmons won’t get one this season as voters for that award have lost sight of that fact that the trophy is a Glove and not a Bat.  But for certain, the Fielding Bible team continues to represent the award for defense alone, and good on them for doing so.

Congratulations to Andrelton Simmons for his continued outstanding defensive efforts!
