Atlanta Braves Sugar Ray Marimon Signs with KT Wiz of KBO

Atlanta Braves relief pitcher, Sugar Ray Marimon, signed with the KT Wiz of the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) on Monday. Sugar Ray made his Major League debut in 2015.

MLB Trade Rumors posted the signing yesterday.

Among all the buzz the trade of Andrelton Simmons generated, this far more insignificant transaction flew under the radar. This is far from a huge loss for Atlanta. Nonetheless, still note-worthy that Marimon goes to Korea.

"“The 27-year-old Marimon made his Major League debut with the Braves this season, pitching to a 7.36 ERA in 25 1/3 innings. The Colombian right-hander has experienced far greater success in Triple-A, where he owns a 3.44 ERA with 6.3 K/9 against 2.8 BB/9 in 164 2/3 innings. Per the Naver report above, he’ll receive $600K guaranteed with the Wiz, who were an expansion team in 2015. Marimon is represented by Chris Fanta of Pro Talent Sports Group.” – MLBTR"

David O’Brien of the AJC also confirmed the news via Twitter.

Sugar Ray had a rough 2015 upon making his debut. He never replicated his Minor League success, and the Braves were obviously OK in letting Marimon sign in Korea.

However, it seems as if the KT Wiz were in desperate need …

Best of luck to Sugar Ray in Korea. Hopefully, he can rebound positively and perhaps return to the Major Leagues a better pitcher.
