Could August Bring Misery or Joy to Atlanta in 2016?

August has now hit on the calendar for the Atlanta Braves and could be an interesting month, possibly the most interesting month they will have in 2016.

The Braves have three off days throughout the month and have an even amount of home and road games, both totaling fourteen games. So how will the Braves fare?

The Braves start the month with an off day before welcoming the Pittsburgh Pirates to Turner Field for three games. The Pirates will likely be in a pennant race by this point in the season, but the Braves should take one, starting the month 1-2.

Now, the Braves face a long road trip, starting in St. Louis to face the Cardinals for three games. The Cardinals will also likely be in a pennant race, but the Braves will sneak one out…hopefully. Record for the month, 2-4.

Continuing the road trip to Milwaukee to face the Brewers for four games, the Braves will split the series and move to 4-6 for the month.

The road trip for the Braves wraps up in Washington to face the Nationals for three games. August was about the time this past season where the Nationals started showing signs they were going to tank. Question becomes, will the Nationals end up doing the same thing this coming season? The Braves take two and are now 6-7 on the month.

Finally, an off day in order to travel home to Turner Field. Here, the Braves will welcome the Minnesota Twins for two games, which the Braves will sweep and move to above .500 for the month…it could happen.

The Nationals come to Turner Field for four games and it seems like the Braves just faced them. This time though, the teams will split the series and the Braves will move to 10-9 for the month.

Now, a west coast swing for the Braves, starting out in Arizona for four games against the Diamondbacks. Not getting an off day for travel in between these series, the Braves will only take one and fall to 11-12 for the month.

Next, the Braves travel further west to face the Giants in San Francisco for three games. The Braves lose two, ending a bad west coast swing and fall to 12-14 for the month.

An off day allows for the Braves to come back home to face the Padres on the last two days of the month, resulting in a split.

The Braves end the month at 13-15.

A rough month for the Braves…but it could have been worse, see 2015, August.
