THIS is How Stories Should Be Reported!

Let’s flash back to one year ago on December 24, 2014 in a HoneyBaked Ham store.  Atlanta Braves Manager Fredi Gonzalez casually picking up a holiday dinner when some information about a signing is leaked.

Braves beat writer, Mark Bowman, shared a comical photo this morning of the same HoneyBaked restaurant that Gonzalez was attending.

The situation went like this…Gonzalez went into the store and while waiting in line a fan recognized him.  The fan, Mr. Lunsford, said hello to Gonzalez and started talking.  After mentioning the recent signing of pitcher Jason Grilli, Fredi said “we signed a catcher today, Pierzynski.”

This was obviously before any news broke that the Braves had signed the catcher.

Lunsford’s son went to twitter after this conversation happened and the story blew up.

The signing of A.J. Pierzynski was the first glance into the fact that the Braves were going to trade Evan Gattis.  At the time, the Braves were debating putting Gattis in left and splitting time behind the plate with Christian Bethancourt.

The Pierzynski signing was a strange one at the time, but it turned into a pretty good situation.

I wonder if/where Gonzalez will pick up his dinner today and if he’ll break any more news!
