Atlanta Braves SunTrust Ball Park Starting To Take Shape

The Atlanta Braves will move into their new facility in 2017…a brand new state of the art entertainment facility that will have a shopping center, restaurants and oh yeah, the Braves ball park.  With so much activity going to take place at and around the park, where will everyone park?

Park their cars that is…

According to the Marietta Daily Journal, plans are being finalized for a $9.87 million pedestrian bridge from the Cobb Galleria parking decks so that fans and other pedestrians can quickly cross Interstate 285 and enter the stadium or its surrounding FanPlex.

Here is a mock-up of the Multi-Use bridge that the Board of Commissioners presented a few days ago.

2016 will be the final year that the Braves play at Turner Field.  They’ve played baseball at the Ted since the 1997 season.  It was originally built as the Centennial Olympic Stadium in 1996 to serve as the centerpiece for the Olympics.

Prior to playing at Turner Field, the Braves played about a block behind at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium.  The Braves moved to that stadium and Atlanta in 1966 from Milwaukee.

When the Braves leave in 2017, Georgia State University will move in with their football team.  They won the bid to purchase Turner Field back in December.

As we move towards 2017, we continue to watch this stadium rise.  Here’s a cool video we found with recent photos of the construction.

Airborne traffic anchor and reporter for News 95.5FM and AM 750 WSB, Mark McKay, posted a couple photos of the ball park on twitter.

For someone who doesn’t live close to Cobb County, I’m thankful that McKay was able to give us these images.  We look forward to the continual growth of the buildings as well as 2017 when we move in!
