Braves Have New Spring Training Hats and Jerseys

The Atlanta Braves tweeted out their new look for the 2016 Spring Training on Thursday afternoon.  Personally, I like these a lot more than last years and I’ll probably pick one up soon at the store.  They go on sale on Monday at the Braves MLB store.

After seeing the tweet above, this thought came to my mind – will the Braves change the look of their uniforms when they move to the new stadium in Cobb County in 2017?

The Braves first wore the “Braves” across their chest in 1925 for their road uniforms.  They still played in Boston and had the fancy capital “B” for their home jerseys.  When the organization decided to go back to being the Boston Bees, obviously the “Braves” name dropped from the jersey.

“Braves” reappeared on the jerseys in 1945 and have been there ever since.  The look, the slant, the tomahawk…all have stayed pretty much the same over time.  In 1976, under the Ted Turner umbrella, the uniforms were heavily red, white and blue.  Also, for the first time in franchise history, Atlanta was placed on the front of the road jerseys.  In 1980, the (now fan favorite pastime) powder blue uniforms were introduced.

Many teams, no matter the sport, decide to change their look when moving to a new area.  Some go drastic, others change slightly.  No mention, that I’ve seen, has even suggested a change in their look and it probably won’t be public knowledge for a while.  Could the Braves bring in different colors, a new stripe down the side of the jerseys, the red jersey back, etc?

The opinions are endless at this point, but it did have me thinking of what 2017 could look like on the field.  This will also open the door for the Braves organization to gain more merchandise money with fans buying the new-look jerseys.  Something to think about, we’ll see if anything happens.

So what do you think?  Will the Braves change anything with their uniforms as they move into the new SunTrust park?
