Atlanta Braves Still Seeing Events Worth A Closer Look
3 Events in MLB This Week That the Braves Might Check Into
We’re at the end of January – Fan Fest is happening today and players are starting to get into a ‘Spring Training Mode’ now that we’re 3 weeks away from the first official workouts for pitchers and catchers.
But as John Coppolella declared himself: ‘we don’t close’. If that’s truly the case, then there’s a couple of things that happened this week that he’s probably done a bit of work on.
- The Dodgers have an agreement to re-sign free agent second baseman Howie Kendrick (whom they had saddled with a Qualifying Offer). No draft pick changes will take place as a result, but they will get him back at the relative bargain rate of $10 million for each of the next 2 years.
- MLB declared 4 Cuban players to be free agents, and thus eligible to sign with any club immediately. There are 2 that could be of interest to the Braves, though there is a definite off-the-field issue with one of those.
- The Rockies and Rays completed a trade that sent surplus outfielder Corey Dickerson and 3B prospect Kevin Padlo to St. Petersburg in exchange for reliever Jake McGee and RHP prospect German Marquez.
Let’s take a look at each one of these items and see what interest the Braves might have in their wake.
