Braves Dansby Swanson Writes About Coming Home To Atlanta

When the Atlanta Braves traded for Dansby Swanson earlier this offseason, I wonder if the front office knew that his father’s home is in Marietta, Georgia and his childhood home was close to Atlanta.  Just like Charlie Puth and Wiz Khalifa sang about Coming Home, Swanson is coming home!

If you haven’t seen it yet, Swanson posted an article on The Players’ Tribune today about him coming home, his childhood, the trade, being the number one draft pick and finally getting a dog.

The Players’ Tribune is a resource for professional athletes to have a voice about whatever topic they please.  We’ve seen everyone from MLB great Derek Jeter to NASCAR Champions Kyle Busch.

Swanson took us through his reaction to the trade and where he went after he found out he was no longer an Arizona Diamonback.

"An hour before, it had been a normal day. I was at dinner at BB King’s in Nashville with my girlfriend and some Nike officials who were in town for Winter Meetings. It was still more than two months until I had to report back to the Diamondbacks — in what would be my first full season for a big league organization. In the middle of dinner, life decided to deal me some new cards. A text came in from a friend. It just said three words: “Is it true?”"

Dansby explained in his post that after he talked with his agent, he went to the Vanderbilt basketball court to collect his thoughts.

One last thing from his article that I’ll point out before you go check it out.  Swanson references his first career professional at-bat and where he’d like to have it at.

"I can’t wait for my first big league at-bat at Turner Field, and I hope it’s this year, but right now I’m embracing the lessons of the minors."

Am I looking into this too much?  Possibly, but it was a hot topic leaving this weekends FanFest at Turner Field.  Both Swanson and Fredi Gonzalez was asked about when we should expect to see Dansby wearing an Atlanta Braves jersey.  Gonzalez said it could be sooner rather then later, Swanson said he has no clear indication of a timetable.

Braves shouldn’t rush Swanson to the majors, especially since we have Erick Aybar to handle the shortstop position in 2016.  If Atlanta is struggling again and Swanson is performing well in the minors, I can see a late in the year call-up.  Braves are smart and will play it safe with Swanson.
