Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman took live batting practice on Saturday at the Wild World of Sports.  This was the first time he has taken live batting practice since the season ended in 2015.

Freeman, who suffered a right wrist injury back in June of 2015, continues to deal with this nagging injury.  Earlier last week, when Freeman arrived in Orlando, he said the Braves and himself will take it easy heading into Spring Training…well since then, he’s swung in the cages and now on the field.

Below is a video that Atlanta Journal Constitution’s David O’Brien posted today

Strange to see Freddie sleeveless under his jersey, eh?

In this video you get to see Freddie take a couple swings, but mostly just watches pitches.  He did swing at more than the video captured.

Here’s a video that the Braves social media team posted earlier.  Freeman’s swing looks a little off, but hey, it’s early

This is a great sign for Braves fans, as just a few days ago we were thinking this wrist injury could linger around for longer.  Freeman is still well behind others and the Braves will continue to take it slow, but this is huge.

After practice, Freeman told reports “I think they want me to take tomorrow off just for stress management.  I told them I was fine, but they just want to make sure it stays fine.”

Freddie has hit in the cages with coaches this week and on Friday he stepped into the batter’s box when Julio Teheran was throwing…Freeman didn’t swing at any pitches, he stood there and watched to recognize the speed of pitches again.

AJC’s O’Brien posted this in his article on Saturday

"When he stepped in Saturday and swung at a pitch from Norris, Freeman surprised just about everyone. He said even the Braves trainers didn’t know he was going to swing at live pitching. He swung at a few Sims pitches and hit a couple of line drives before shattering his bat on his last swing of the day."

Interesting…I’d like to see the faces on the training staff, Fredi Gonzalez and actually everyone around.

Though the Braves will take it easy and slow with Freddie, without any setbacks, he’ll be starting Opening Day for the Braves.  He told reporters earlier this week that he wanted to play all 162 games this season…how can you question him?

If you’re a fantasy baseball fan, Freeman’s health can be a huge question mark heading into this season.  Within the upcoming days/weeks we’ll get a true look at how this injury will play out in 2016.
