Atlanta Braves News: The Morning Chop, Box Score, BRAVES WIN!!!
By Jeff Schafer
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The Atlanta Braves defeated the Miami Marlins on Friday after trailing heading into the top of the 7th down 3-0. The Braves scored two runs in the 7th inning and then four runs in the 8th. It was looking rough for the Braves early, especially when Adonis Garcia let a ball go through his legs in the 3rd inning and then the very next hitter (Prado), Garcia threw the ball away at first. The back-to-back errors didn’t hurt the Braves as no runs were scored, but it could have hurt their spirits. Instead, they bounced back and put some hits and runs together to take the victory!

Atlanta Braves avoid tying worst start in franchise’s history
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The Braves win, da Braves!! In great comeback fashion, the Atlanta Braves got their first victory of the 2016 season on Friday night as they fought back from a 3-0 deficit. That’s how it had to happen I would think. A comeback victory after starting the season 0-9 just seems right. Now this momentum will carry them into a weekend series sweep and eventually a .500 record!
"The Atlanta Braves avoided tying the worst start in franchise history and picked up their first win of the season beating the Miami Marlins 6-3 Friday at Marlins Park. They are now 1-9 this season. With a loss, Atlanta would have matched the 1988’s Braves’ 0-10 record to start the season, the worst in the the team’s history.Trailing 3-0 after six, it looked as if another loss was on the way. But the Braves scored two runs in the seventh inning and four in the eighth.Adonis Garcia singled to center driving in A.J. Pierzynski and Nick Markakis giving the Braves the lead for the first time in the game."
Top Prospects that Never Were: Andy Marté, Atlanta Braves
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Remember the name Andy Marté? The youngster third basemen that was suppose to be the next big thing in Atlanta. After appearing on Baseball America’s Top 100 list in four consecutive seasons from 2003 through 2006 – as high as #9 in 2005 – Marté never translated into a MLBer. In his 12 minor league seasons, he had a .280/.350/.484 slash line with 163 home runs, 635 RBIs, 244 doubles, 13 triples and 18 stolen bases. We see this every year, a player who just doesn’t translate into the MLB.
"Signed as an amateur free agent back in 2000, Marté played in just 308 games and compiled 940 plate appearances in the majors. Instead, the overwhelming majority of his success came in the minor leagues. That’s baseball—some folks work their tail off for years before getting their shot; others get a chance rather quickly but it’s clear early on they are in over their head. Marté was an example of the latter. After his best season (2010) when he hit .229/.298/.382 over 81 games, Marté didn’t see major league action again until 2014 with the Arizona Diamondbacks. He played in only six games that season, accumulating 16 plate appearances. In between those years, Marté became a free agent on three separate occasions—failing to reach the big league roster for both the Pittsburgh Pirates and Los Angeles Angels. Now 32 years old, Marté is currently in his second season in the Korean Baseball Organization as a member of the KT Wiz. He slashed .348/.414/.569 with 32 doubles and 20 home runs in 2015, and is off to another solid start this season. In parts of 12 seasons in the minors, he’s hit .280/.350/.484. In parts of nine seasons in foreign leagues, ranging from the Dominican Winter League to the KBO, Marté’s slashed .291/.359/.473."
