Braves Make Deal Again With Angels

The Atlanta Braves have traded Jhoulys Chacin to the Angels as reported by Braves beat writer Mark Bowman.  Chacin was supposed to be the Braves starting pitcher for tonight’s game against the Phillies.  To make the move possible, the Braves will likely call up Williams Perez to start on Wednesday night at Turner Field.

The 28-year-old starting pitcher is 1-2 for the Braves in 2016 with a 5.40 ERA.  In his five starts with the Braves he’s shown promise and disappointment.  After a great first appearance with the Braves – six scoreless innings giving up five hits and had eight strikeouts – he turned in a 6.97 ERA his last four outings.

In return you may ask?

The Braves have received a minor league 6’8″ left-handed pitcher Adam McCreery.  The 23-year-old pitched the last two years (2014-15) for Tempe in the Arizona League & posted a 3.52 ERA in 31 appearances with 49 strikeouts…according to the Braves Twitter page.  In 2016, he has a 2.61 ERA in 16 rookie-league appearances.  In 18.2 innings pitched, he has 28 strikeouts and 14 walks.

He was drafted in the 2014 MLB draft in the 22nd round.  McCreery attended Asuza Pacific University (La Verne, CA) and supposedly was projected to be a 2nd round draft pick out of high school.  He decided to attend a university and his stock dropped.

McCreery has only reached rookie-league level, but being a college pitcher and already 23-years-old, he could progress kind of quickly in the Braves organization.

Future bullpen help for a starting pitcher that probably wasn’t going anywhere…I guess I’ll take it and watch this large kid develop.

Take a look at this giant pitcher…

Young Guns On The Way, But Not Yet

Many will want to see pitching prospects Lucas Sims or Tyrell Jenkins in the Braves rotation, but it will probably be a little while longer before we see them.

Perez was pulled from his Gwinnett start today and did pitch great in his last start with Gwinnett – complete game one hit shut out against the Charlotte Knights.  In his two previous starts, he allowed seven earned runs off 10.1 innings pitched and 14 hits.

Jenkins pretty much shut the door when a fan asked him if he’ll be pitching tonight…I love how open he is on social media!  Great follow BTW.
