Braves Sink Phils for Second Straight Win

By the time the Phillies came up in the ninth, I think everyone just wanted the game over. The Atlanta Braves had 2-0 advantage. Mother Nature made sure the Braves held the advantage.

It’s probably a good thing this game started at 3:05 EST. In the bottom of the ninth, no one wanted to be out there. The rain was coming down in a manner that would have postponed today.

On Williams Perez‘s birthday, he picks up the win and the Braves secured the series win. Their first series win since sweeping the Marlins back on April 15-17.

As you could imagine, the scoring was minimal. The final was 2-0 Braves and Arodys Vizcaino recorded his fifth save.

The Braves up their record to 12-30, 3-2 under interim manager Brian Snitker. Chase d’Arnaud led the offense going 3-5 with a double.

Although, the runs came in the 4th on a double from Ender Inciarte (only his 2nd of the year) and Erick “Chicken Wing” Aybar. Erick Aybar scored Nick Markakis on a sacrifice fly. and that’s all the Braves would need.

Williams Perez tossed 6.1 innings of 2 hit ball. Allowed zero runs and walked one. He struck out 4.

The score probably should have been a lot more for the Braves. A glaring total in the box score reflects 15 men left on base. Five of those from Jeff Francoeur. He left the bases loaded once.

Atlanta goes for the series win … haven’t heard that much this year. On a good note, the Braves go back to back games without making an error.

The defense for Atlanta was the only thing shining today, that, and Perez’s arm. No Phillies runner made it past second base the whole game.

Next: Draft Strategy

The Braves go for the sweep tomorrow in the finale. Braves starter will be Casey Kelly, Brian Snitker announced following today’s win. The Phillies will send out Jerad Eickhoff (1-6, 4.44 ERA). First pitch is at 1:35 EST.
