Braves 1B Freddie Freeman: ‘Had a pretty horrible season so far’

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Freeman had another bad night at the plate on Thursday as he went 1-5 with two strikeouts and left six runners on base.  The 26-year-old is now batting .125 with runners in scoring position in 2016.  It’s highly what you want to do, but Braves manager Brian Snitker may need to think about dropping Freeman in the lineup again…not that anyone is doing much better, but when Fredi Gonzalez moved him down earlier this year it kind of sparked a little fire underneath Freddie.  Take a look at Josh Brown’s report from yesterday on Freddie Freeman.

"Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman isn’t making excuses for his offensive free fall that has caused his batting average to drop dramatically.“Right now, I suck. There’s no getting around it,” said Freeman, who’s hitting just .186 in his past 14 games and is 1-for-26 with runners in scoring position.“I feel great. I’ve had a pretty horrible season so far. There’s not sugarcoating it, I’m just not getting hits. The hits I do get are obviously not with guys in scoring position, but obviously that needs to change. If it doesn’t happen soon. … I’m already getting frustrated. Usually my track record’s pretty good with guys on base.”"

Williams Perez growing confident with each start

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Going back to last season, Perez was a consistent starting pitcher until he got injured in the summer.  The 25-year-old was struck by a batted ball in the foot while on the mound pitching in June.  He was placed on the DL and returned to Atlanta over a month later.  After that, he struggled through the rest of the season.  Well, now it looks as though Perez has got his mojo back and his consistency.  I’ve been a Perez fan for a while now and hope he can continue throwing well.

"One change Perez added was more command of his secondary pitches. He worked on his two-seam fastball and his breaking balls in Triple-A. He also worked on his delivery. The result has been a tighter glove hand motion that helps him disguise his pitches to batters.“I worked on it in the bullpen sessions, and I put it in the game,” Perez said. “I got it worked out in Triple-A and it’s good now.”Overall, the results have been great. This season, Perez is 2-1 with a 3.86 ERA. He also has 10 strikeouts and owns a 1.13 WHIP. This has caused Snitker to keep him in the starting rotation as the fourth starter."

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note:  Bad news for the 19-year-old prospect Ricardo Sanchez.  After pitching 5.2 innings on Wednesday, he left the game with a sore shoulder.  He went to the doctors yesterday to get his shoulder examined, but news it’s out yet on how the doctors appointment went.  Sanchez is the Braves #19 prospect in the minors and was currently pitching for the Rome Braves.  This season, he’s started nine games with a 3-4 record and a 5.23 ERA.  Hopefully this isn’t anything major and he can get back on the mound shortly.  Once we hear an update, we’ll share the information with you.
