Braves Fall In Game 2 To Giants

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher, Matt Wisler pitched another gem on Tuesday evening.  He pitched into the 8th inning, but that’s when it got ugly.  Prior to the 8th inning, Wisler allowed only three hits, one run, one walk and had two strikeouts.

Then the 8th inning…Brandon Crawford walked to start off the inning.  The Gregor Blanco roped a double to right-center field.  This put runners on second and third with no outs.  The end of the night for Wisler was immediately after this double.

Some will argue that Braves manger Brian Snitker kept Wisler in too long.  Those same folks will argue why Snitker took out Mike Foltynewicz early last night.

Any-who, back to the game.

The Braves were down 1-0 heading into the 8th inning and now have runners on second and third base with no outs.  Ready for the bullpen carousel?

Left-handed reliever Hunter Cervenka replaced Wisler on the mound because the next guy in the Giants lineup was Conor Gillaspie – a lefty.  Well, they replaced him with pinch-hitter Kelby Tomlinson.  So, the Braves intentionally walked Tomlinson to load the bases to make force outs at all bags.

Right-handed reliever Chris Withrow replaces Cervenka because Matt Duffy was pinch-hitting for Giants starting pitcher Jake Peavy.  Duffy drove a ball deep enough in right field to score the runner from third.  Braves down 2-0.

Left-handed reliever Eric O’Flaherty replaces Withrow to face left-handed hitter Denard Span.  He singled to right-field and Blanco scored on a mis-throw from Nick Markakis.  Braves down 3-0.

Joe Panik laid down a terrific bunt to first which he was originally called safe, but the Braves challenged the play and he was out.  But, the Giants scored another run on this play.  Braves down 4-0.

Wisler’s final line was seven innings, four hits, three runs, two walks and two strikeouts.  He is now 2-5 during the 2016 season with a 3.16 ERA, but his record definitely doesn’t show how well he’s pitched this year.

Braves Offense

The Braves offense had only one hit on Tuesday.  One.  A single off the bat of Tyler Flowers.  Flowers also reached on a walk in the 8th inning.  He’s the only Braves hitter to reach base.

It speaks to how well Jake Peavy pitched tonight…if you ask Joe Simpson.  Yes, Peavy may have pitched a wonderful game, but the Braves offense isn’t great.  Peavy hit his spots and kept our batters off-balance all night.

I guess I really can’t say too much here….Ender Inciarte sums it all up in one Tweet….

Braves fall to 15-36 for the season while the Giants are now 33-21.  We’ll go for another victory on Wednesday as we hit game three of this four-game series.  7:10pm ET is the start time as the Giants send right-handed Albert Suarez to the mound and the Braves have Williams Perez pitching.
