It’s a term us Braves fans are all too familiar with these days – “The rebuilding process.” Since former Braves GM Frank Wren was canned, it’s been the mantra of the Atlanta Braves organization. But, is it working so far?

I’d like to think that it is. It’s no question that Frank Wren depleted the Atlanta Braves farm system. He did this with irresponsible trades which gave away promising young Braves prospects like Elvis Andrus and Neftalí Feliz, just to name a couple. And due to irresponsible free agent signings during the Wren era, the Braves lost pretty valuable draft picks like with the brilliant Derek Lowe signing.

This being said, when Wren left and the new regime took over, many Braves fans were exciting about rebuilding a depleted farm system. And still are. And they probably still should be.

And, I’m still excited about this rebuild. It’s still early. If you look at some of the big names John Coppolella and John Hart gave up in order to sort of start this “rebuilding process”, you can’t not give them credit.

Look at Shelby Miller right now. He’s currently 1-and-6 with a 7.09 ERA.

Look at Jason Heyward right now.  Heyward is currently batting .226 and has the same amount of home runs this season as Madison Bumgarner. Plus, he’s in the very beginning of a grossly overpaid $184 million contract which, in my opinionated opinion, he does not have the ability to ever play up to.

While he does have 6 homers, Evan Gattis is currently batting .226.

So basically, as of late, the Atlanta Braves have done a great job in capitalizing on high-profile names and getting more talented/younger/cheaper guys in return. It’s a great formula.
