Atlanta Braves News: The Morning Chop, Box Score, Ticket Sales, Braves WIN, Draft Day!
By Jeff Schafer
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The Atlanta Braves defeated the San Diego Padres on Wednesday to avoid being swept by a 25-win team. The Braves now improve to a 17-42 record, 19 games behind first place in our division the Washington Nationals and still the worst in the MLB. Braves totaled 14 hits against the Padres “best” pitcher lefty Drew Pomeranz (nine hits and the bullpen gave up five). This may be a crazy thought, but is Chase d’Arnaud turning into our All-Star player for 2016? With three additional hits on Wednesday, he now holds a slash line of .345/.402/.452 for the 2016 season in Atlanta. Teheran held the former Braves – Melvin Upton and Christian Bethancourt – to one hit a piece.

Braves avoid sweep with 4-2 win over Padres
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The Padres defeated the Braves in both game one and game two of this series, but the Braves weren’t going home with being swept. Atlanta jumped out to a 2-0 lead off San Diego’s starter lefty Drew Pomeranz and then added an extra run when Julio Teheran had an RBI single in the 4th inning. Teheran did allow two solo home runs to Wil Myers in the 4th inning and the 6th inning. Teheran looked great on Wednesday pitching eight innings and allowing five hits, two runs and a walk. Julio picked up his second win of the 2016 season.
"Ender Inciarte finished a home run shy of the cycle and scored twice for the Braves, who ended a six-game losing streak.Batting leadoff, Inciarte singled and scored in the first, doubled in the second, struck out in the fourth and tripled and scored in the sixth.Teheran (2-6) allowed two runs and five hits in eight innings, struck out eight and walked one. Arodys Vizcaino, who took the loss Tuesday night, pitched the ninth for his seventh save in nine chances."
Braves hold four picks Thursday
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The Atlanta Braves will have five picks in the top 80 in the 2016 MLB draft. Sounds amazing until you think about all the guys that were projected to be solid MLB players and then never turned into anything. The Braves scouts have been working none stop on recruiting talent for these picks and hopefully their guy drops to them at #3. I think they’ll go with a bat with the third pick in the draft, but can never count the Braves out of going with a pitcher.
"The draft begins at 7 p.m., and MLB network will televise the event. The 77 picks will go off the board Thursday night. That’s the first round, Lottery Round A, the second round and Lottery Round B. The Braves hold picks Nos. 3 (first round), 40 (Lottery A), 44 (second round) and 76 (Lottery B).The draft will resume Friday at 1 p.m. and continue through Round 10. The draft concludes Saturday, beginning at noon, with rounds 11-40."
Atlanta Braves Selling Tickets For As Low As $2.60/Game. What’s The Catch?
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The Atlanta Braves have now offered a heck of a deal for the rest of the 2016 season. Knowing ticket sales and attendance has been down, they’ve decided to put in affect a monthly pass that’s $39. You’ll have to keep in mind that if you sign up for this deal in June, they will automatically draft another $39 in July if you don’t cancel. The Braves tried this in 2015 for a little higher of a price and I guess they saw enough success to bring it back.
"The Braves, who are in the final year of play at Atlanta’s Turner Field before moving out to their new SunTrust Park digs in the suburbs, are now offering“Monthly Passes” for $39 to convince deal-minded Braves fans to come out to see a team with a current home record of 6-23.It works like this: You pay the monthly fee and get access to all the home games for that month. There aren’t any assigned seats, but with Turner Field frequently at less than one-third capacity, you won’t be stuck in standing room.On game day, you’ll get a text alert telling you where your assigned seat is. You accept your seats and get your scannable tickets through the MLB Ballpark app."
