Atlanta Braves Draft Day 2 Live Tracking Thread

Once more into the breach dear friends, Day two of the rule four draft is about to begin and I’ll be tracking the picks here and posting what we can find out about the Braves selections.

Yesterday was all about pitching but while there will be more of that as the field thins out position players will begin to appear. I mentioned some of those in the latter part of my earlier post.

The Braves still need offense but it seems as if everything thinks we’ll just trade the pitchers we trade for multiple bats and sign other internationally.

Still there are occasional gems in the late rounds, Mike Piazza was a  62nd round pick and Kris Medlen came in the tenth round so there is hope.

Let’s talk about what happens as the day goes on.

Drew Harrinton LHP

Harrington was ACC Pitcher of the Year in 2016. He  posting a 029 ERA as a reliever last season But started this year and posted 2.08, 1.06 WHIP this year in 103 2/3 IP in16 starts He lasted more than five innings in every start allowing two runs or less in 12 of them.

He’s a two pitch pitcher with a fastball sitting  88-91 mph and touching a few 93 during game with some deception and late life down in the zone.

Staff Writer Ben Chase Tweeted the following information.

Harrington is a guy who probably will seem very familiar to those who saw Trevor Belicek before he was traded.

He was the Saturday starter for Louisville this year and went deep into each start on the season, so durability of his left arm is not an issue,  but he’s likely to end up as a reliever long-term.

He’s got good size at 6’2 and 230 and while his fastball isn’t blazing at 88-92, he has a the ability to cut, sink, and raise it to get strikes. He gets tremendous movement out of the pitch to pair wiih his  slider. He’fits the mold of pitchers the Braves did well with last year like Josh Graham, Matt Withrow, and Patrick Weigel, but in a different profile, with great pitching skill, but likely to move to relief.
