Braves To Call Up Prospect

The Atlanta Braves are set to call up right-handed pitcher Tyrell Jenkins on Thursday.  The Braves play the Cincinnati Reds at 12:30pm ET so for the quick turn-around, we will need an extra bullpen arm.  I’m guessing we’ll see him on the mound today since the Braves used so many arms last night.

Jenkins is the Braves 8th ranked prospect in the minor leagues and has been pitching really well in Gwinnett.  He was recently moved to the bullpen in Gwinnett because of the amount of pitches in his arsenal.

I think this is a great move for the Braves and I hope he stays in Atlanta.  The Braves moved Casey Kelly to the Gwinnett Braves to open up a spot for Jenkins.  Please do well today!!

What’s even crazier is how this story has developed.  Could we say another Honeybaked Ham incident occurred?

Braves 7th round draft pick in the 2016 MLB draft has tweeted out a congratulatory tweet to Jenkins.

If you recall a couple years ago, Fredi Gonzalez (yes, remember him) told a random guy in the Honeybaked Ham store about the upcoming signing of AJ Pierzynski.

As of now, not the Braves, Mark Bowman, David O’Brien or Grant McAuley have mentioned this, but I’m guessing news will be coming out shortly.

Unfamiliar with Jenkins?  He came to the Braves from St. Louis in the Jason Heyward/Shelby Miller trade.  He posted a 2.91 ERA in 14 appearances in 2016 with Gwinnett.  Also, Jenkins was the 2015 Organizational Pitcher of the year for the Braves.

The 6’4″, 210 pound righty is 23-years-old from Henderson, Texas.  He was rated #94 prospect in the game before the 2012 season as well as before the 2013 season, but injuries slowed down his progress.  Since starting his professional career at the age of 17-years-old, he’s always been a started.  The Braves moved him to a reliever and he’s had five appearances so far out of the pen.
