Atlanta Braves Morning Chop: Draft Signees Update… and Bats!
Braves beat up on mediocre Cincinnati pitching – real test is coming up in New York this weekend.
Suddenly… a bit of an offensive turn-around. In four games vs. the Reds, Atlanta scored 8, 1, 9, and 7 runs in splitting the 4-game series and bringing them up to 20 wins on the year. Beyond that, they gathered 9, 19 (okay, in 13 innings), 5 and 10 hits in each game. It’s a start.
That win total matches (again) the Twins in the “race” for last in the majors, but at least provides a bit of confidence before going into New York City to face their gauntlet of arms.
Freddie Freeman is suddenly – finally – on fire: he has raised his average to .265, powered by 10 hits in the 20 AB’s during this Cincy series – never mind 3 homers and the cycle on Wednesday night.
Mallex Smith is also heating up… or at least finding ways to get on base. 4 walks and 4 hits vs. the Reds with 4 steals. And finally… no overslides (okay, there was one that was inexplicably not challenged). But he now has 7 steals in a row dating back to May 26th without being “officially” caught. That’ll play.
Here’s your happy box score from Thursday afternoon:
