Atlanta Braves Win Sunday Finale To Splits Series with The Mets

The Atlanta Braves and New York Mets faced off again this afternoon with Bud Norris on the mound against Bartolo Colon and the Mets in an attempt to get a series split.

Aside from a first inning run by the Braves it looked like a continuation of last night’s contest with pitchers in charge and everyone else just trying to catch up.

Pitching Dominates Again

Bartolo Colon has been written off every year for the past three or four yet he continues to pitch  well and hold his rotation spot.

Bud Norris had an awful 2015 and started 2016 so badly he ended up in the bullpen. Then an injury gave him another shot at starting and he hasn’t looked back.

The first inning wasn’t his best of the day but it wasn’t that bad even though every batter seemed to hit the ball on the screws and directly at last night’s Mets’ hero Kelly Johnson.

Jace Peterson hit a line drive that force Johnson back to the track. Ender Inciarte followed a fly ball that Johnson tracked down but although he gave it a valiant effort, he couldn’t stop the ball Freeman hit from landing in the stands for his 13th homer.

Markakis got in on the act with a line drive double to left but Colon kept his cool and although Adonis Garcia hit a rope it was right at Neil Walker for the final out.

Colon sat the Braves down in order in the second but in the third Peterson got a one out single. An Inciarte fly ball was out number two but Freeman doubled moving Peterson to third; he was still there when Markakis stuck out to end the threat.

His fourth inning was another 1-2-3 affair and side from another single from Peterson so was the fifth. Freeman led off the sixth with an infield single played deep on the grass in a by Walker due to the shift. His throw went between James Loney’s legs an into the dugout allowing Freeman to advance to second. At this point Freddie was looking for a triple to complete his second cycle of the year.

Colon retired the next three hitters without incident and finished the seventh with nothing happening except colon issuing his first walk in 25 innings.  On the day Colon threw 84 pitches – 56 for strikes over seven innings allowing one run on six hits and a walk striking out two.
