The Ft. Bragg Game is being treated like a once-in-a-lifetime event… by everyone connected with it.

There are several things in life that people hold up as being particularly important.  It might be a wedding, a graduation, a first job, a special meeting, a reunion – even a first date.  Such events are treated with special importance.  The calendar is circled, preparations are made, you talk about it with others, the planning is meticulous.

Such has been the case with the MLB/MLBPA Ft. Bragg Game.

Hundreds of people have been involved in the planning, preparation, and construction to this gift to our soldiers.  So many have jumped on board and invested significant time and energy to make this happen since the announcement was made less than four months ago – and even before that.

The singular regret, I’m sure, is that there just isn’t room for more to directly participate.  With nearly 55,000 active duty military residing on the base and only 12,500 seats available, it simply isn’t possible to accommodate all that want to be there.

The hope is that there will at least be several ‘viewing parties’ available around Bragg so that many more can cheer what’s happening nearby, but for sure:  this game between the Marlins and Braves is the central point of a full weekend for the troops.
