It a brand new era for the Braves… except somebody forgot to tell Pirate starter Gerrit Cole, who doesn’t care about your shiny new bat.

One could argue that Mike Foltynewicz outpitched Gerrit Cole last night – 4 hits vs. 7 for Cole; both with 4 K, and Folty at least got into the sixth inning.  Unfortunately, that sixth inning was the undoing for the Braves as neither Foltynewicz nor Jose Ramirez could stop the damage that ultimately became the decisive 4 run inning of defeat.

Matt Kemp and Freddie Freeman were toasted by Pirate pitching:  a combined 0-9 with 1 walk and 5 strikeouts while leaving runners all over the bases (10 LOB for the team, 2 of 12 w/RISP).

You can get the full recap here, but suffice it to say this:  if the Pirates were still disappointed or annoyed at their team’s trade deadline moves, they got over it.  But something tells me that Gerrit Cole is worth more than $548,000.
