Atlanta Braves Promote Madison Younginer

David O’Brien reports (via Twitter) that the Braves  promoted RHP Madison Younginer from Gwinnett. To Clear roster space for Younginer Brandon Snyder was designated for assignment.

Madison Younginer

Younginer was a seventh round draft pick of the Red Sox in 2007 and by the end of the 2010 season BA ranked him as their number 24 prospect. At that time he featured 92-94 mph fastballs and topped out at 96 backed by a slow curve and a change.

Like all young pitchers he had trouble with control and was eventually converted to a relief role. The Red Sox cut ties with him after the 2015 season and he signed with the Braves.

More from Tomahawk Take

The 6’4, 205 pound Georgia native began the year at Gwinnett making six appearances with a 3.42 ERA in 7 1/3 innings and the Braves sent him to Pearl at the end of April.

With the M-Braves he appeared in 35 games throwing 42 1/3 innings with a 2.98 ERA and 1.06 WHIP striking out 47 and walking 12.  He returned to Gwinnett three days ago and made one appearance going two innings and giving up three unearned runs.

His addition to the bullpen comes as the Braves are using a lot of emergency starters making bullpen help a necessity.

That’s A Wrap

To make room on the 25 man roster the Braves designate Snyder for assignment. Since being called up in June  Snyder made 34 plate appearances posting a .182/.206/.515/.721 line with two home runs.

Next: Braves whip Cards

I expect more  changes over the next few days as waiver wire moves are made and the Braves try to keep starters in the mound.  One of the Braves rehabbing starters – John Gant – left his start last night after being physically ill on the field. There’s no indication that the illness had anything to do with his previous injury.
