Atlanta Braves Stay Hot Take Series From Cards

The Atlanta Braves stayed hot early against a struggling Adam Wainwright and held on to take the game and the series.

Early Redbird Issues

Adam Wainwright started by getting two quick outs then thing changed. It started with a walk to Freddie Freeman, Matt Kemp followed that with a double sending Freeman to third and Nick Markakis kept the line moving with as single. Suddenly the Cards were down 2-0 and Wainwright looked uncertain.

Adonis Garcia singled sharply to center sending  Markakis to third and Jace Peterson drove him in with a single to right.

Wainwright got out of the inning by getting Anthony Recker on a popup but at the cost of 39 first inning pitches

His second inning started with a single by Braves starter Mike Foltynewicz. Ender Inciarte turned on the first pitch he saw in the inning and drove a ball just foul down the right field line. He took the next pitch back up the middle extending his hitting streak to 18 games and sending Foltynewicz to third.

More from Tomahawk Take

The suddenly revitalized Erick Aybar jumped on a middle middle offering from Wainwright and tripled, extending his hitting streak to 12 games and putting the Braves up 5-0.

Wainwright walked Freeman for the second time in two innings and Matt Kemp hit a dribbler that scored Aybar and put runners at first and second with one out.

Markakis followed that with a walk before Garcia hit in an into an inning ending double play.  Wainwright was down six and had thrown 61 pitches through two innings.

The third inning saw a changed Wainwright on the mound. He’s altered his mechanics slightly and was now spotting his pitches more effectively and through the next three innings the Braves got nothing off Wainwright

While Wainwright struggled Foltynewicz was pitching well.
