Atlanta Braves Continue to Shuffle The Deck

The Atlanta Braves continued to shuffle today releasing Manny Banuelos and claiming Kyle Kubitza off waivers from Texas.

Bye Bye Banuelos

The Yankees signed Banuelos as an international free agent in 2008 and by the 2011 he was # 41 on Baseball America’s top 100 and # 27 on the Baseball Prospectus list. His star continued to rise that season and in 2102 BA & BP both had him at #29 and MLB rated him the #13 prospect in baseball.

That season ended with elbow issues for Manny and in October he had TJ surgery and missed all of the 2013 season. After returning he had continuing control issues and managed on 76 1/3 innings in 2014.  In January 2015 the Yankees traded him to the Braves for David Carpenter and Chasen Shreve.

Banuelos made 15 starts at Gwinnett to begin last season throwing 82 2/3 innings with a 2.29 ERA and earning a call to come to Atlanta.

He made dour starts and one relief appearance for the Braves posting a 2.49 ERA in 21 2/3 innings before his elbow issues returned. He returned from the disabled list in September and made two starts but lasted ess than three innings each time.

Manny started this season at Rome and moved up to Gwinnett but he didn’t pitch well there and was demoted to Mississippi in July. He made four starts there but managed just 18 1/3 innings with a 5.40 ERA and today the Braves cut ties with the lefty.
