Hitter of the week: Travis Demeritte had a big introduction to the system in the last week with Carolina. He’s put up a .412/.655/1.000 line with 7 runs, 2 triples, 2 home runs, 3 RBI, a 12/7 BB/K ratio, and 2 stolen bases. Demeritte had three separate games with 3 walks on the week. He’s been really playing well offensively, even leading off multiple games for Carolina. To think that the Braves got him for two guys off of the scrap heap is even more impressive.

Honorable mention: The Braves have been waiting on Austin Riley‘s power to wake up this season. They have to wait no longer. Riley may not have had great contact on the week, but everything he hit, he hit VERY hard. Riley’s line on the week was .250/.357/.792 with 7 runs, a double, 4 home runs, 7 RBI, a 4/9 BB/K ratio, and a stolen base for good measure. Now, his defense has become atrocious since his early-season injury, and I still think he’s trying to play through an injury, but the bat is completely legit.

Pitcher of the week: While his start didn’t have the highest game score on the week, Sean Newcomb‘s start this week was the most visually dominating start of the week for sure. The numbers were solid, with 6 innings pitched, 2 hits allowed, no runs, 3 walks, and 8 strikeouts, but what was most impressive was the way Newcomb simply mastered hitters. Two of the 3 walks may as well have been written as intentional as they were done in the Greg Maddux style of “pitch it where you want them to swing, if they don’t, let them take the walk and turn two”. He was in control on the mound, and he looked the most like an ace I’ve seen him look all season long.

Honorable mention: The guy who did have the biggest game score of the week did so on the last day of the week. Jed Bradley has really been a revelation for the Braves since acquiring him off the Brewers’ scrap heap. He initially threw well out of the bullpen for Mississippi, but he’s been just untouchable in his starting role since moving to the role. His start Sunday was just masterful as hitters simply couldn’t hit anything square. He went 7 innings, allowing 3 hits, no runs, no walks, and 8 strikeouts.
