Braves Freeman Has A Scary Fall

I think everyone’s heart in the Atlanta Braves camp skipped a couple of beats on Thursday evening as Freddie Freeman took a bad tumble over the wall.

In the bottom of the 2nd inning, Braves starter Matt Wisler threw a 92 mph fastball inside on Mitch Haniger.  He pops it very high in the sky on the first base side.  Freeman runs over in foul territory and tries to catch the ball.  While doing so, he reaches too far over and tumbles over the wall.

Freeman lands very awkwardly onto a few vacant chairs in foul territory.  His body bends in a strange way and everyone immediately stops.  Even Haniger’s face doesn’t look pleasing.

Braves head training, Jeff Porter comes running to Freeman’s aid as does Bo Porter and Nick Markakis.  On first glance, he really looks like he hyperextended his back.  It didn’t look good live folks, it just didn’t.  Especially after the 6’5″ 220 pound first baseman stayed on the ground for a few minutes.

The entire Braves team and fans stood patiently as Freeman attempted to rise to his feet.

Take a look at the occurrence thanks to MLB.com

I’m not going to lie…I had a tinkling feeling and a smile on my face when he came walking out of the dugout and back onto the field.

Freeman stayed in the game and in the top of the 3rd inning had a sharp line drive to right field that scored Ender Inciarte to put the Braves on top 1-0.

What can you say about the toughness of Freddie Freeman.  Most would come out of this ball game as a “precautionary” move, not Freddie!

“I was just glad I was able to get my head out of the way and let the back take the brunt of it,” Freeman told reporters after the game.  “I’m still young enough that it’s not going to hurt too much.”

If you haven’t learned by now, Freeman wants to be on the field no matter what.  As we saw just a few days ago, he even hides injuries to stay in the game.  You can’t get much closer to a throwback player than that!  I’m glad that guy is on our team!

Freddie’s wife comments on the fall, lol.  Hope that’s not the case, but Freddie may be a little sore tomorrow.

“I’m just glad {my back} stayed intact and didn’t snap,” Freeman continued with.  “I just saw the replay and it didn’t look too good.  I’m just very fortunate nothing serious happened.”
