The Braves have outrighted three players from their 40-man roster, which paves the way for near-future call-ups.

The Atlanta Braves have announced on their transactions page that Kyle Kubitza, Madison Younginer and Wilfredo Boscan have been outrighted to the Gwinnett Braves.  This is a procedural move as all three were already assigned to AAA, but it removes each from the 40-man roster.

One of those newly available slots has already been claimedWilliams Perez has been activated from the 60-day disabled list (DL), so he will now “count” against the maximum of 40 names.  While he has been activated, there’s no word about whether he has been promoted to the majors yet.

That said, on Thursday Perez struck out 7 over 5 innings at AAA while giving up no hits and 1 walk.  He wouldn’t be available to pitch again until at least Tuesday, so any promotion announcement likely would not be made until at least then.

With two 40-man slots now available, it is very likely that Mallex Smith will be activated shortly and Ozzie Albies will follow when the Mississippi Braves’ season ends.  Last night this pair terrorized the Biloxi Shuckers’ pitchers as the offensive catalysts in a 10-0 Braves’ romp.

On Thursday, Eric O’Flaherty was transferred to the 60-day DL and Jed Bradley’s contract was selected to take that spot.

As of this morning, the full tally shows that there are now 24 pitchers counted against the 40-man roster, 3 catchers, 8 infielders, and 3 outfielders for a total of 38 names, which does not include the 5 pitchers now on the 60-day DL or Mallex Smith.
