After saying that were going to skip him in the rotation at least once, today the Atlanta Braves moved Aaron Blair to the 15 day DL.

As I wrote two days ago the Atlanta Braves decided to take Blair out of the rotation and allow him to work on his mechanic with Roger McDowell on the side. According to Kevin McCalpin  and others Blair is having an issue with his knee.

There’s no word so far about how long the knee has been bothering him but a gimpy push-off leg would certainly play havoc with your mechanics.

I guessed correctly about today’s starter in the piece linked above, John Gant returns to the rotation tonight for his first start since hitting the disabled list on June 28th.

As happens with such things the Braves made a corresponding move recalling Brandon Cunniff from Gwinnett. Cunniff made four appearances for the Braves in August totaling six innings with a .10.50 ERA and 2.333 WHIP.

The small sample size warming is in full force here as in four of those appearances covering 4 1/3 innings he gave up just two hits, struck out for and walked two without allowing a run.

In Milwaukee however, he allowed three runs in 1 1/3 innings and in that miserable eighth inning against the Giants he gave up four runs on three hits including a homer while recording only one out.

Cunniff has already joined the team and is available tonight.
