Braves Keep Winning, 5-4

The Atlanta Braves took down a good baseball team in the New York Mets on Tuesday night.  Atlanta won 5-4 and have now improved to 60-91.  Some didn’t think the Braves would win 60 games in 2016 so this is an accomplishment.  The Mets have now dropped back-to-back games to the Braves as we go for the sweep on Wednesday.

Julio Teheran started on the mound for the Braves and went seven strong innings.  He gave up five hits, one run and one walk.  Teheran picked up only one strikeouts, but was able to keep the ball low in the strike zone all game to get hitters chasing.  He improves to 6-10 for the season and holds a solid 3.10 ERA.

Jose Ramirez relieved Teheran in the 8th inning and this is where it got a little scary.  Ramirez was able to get Jose Reyes to line up to short to start the inning, but then he walked Asdrubal Cabrera and hit Yoenis Cespedes.  Curtis Granderson smashed a double to right field that scored Cabrera.  Next, T.J. Rivera hit a sac fly that scored Cespedes.  Score is now 5-3.

Ian Krol replaced Ramirez with two outs in the 8th inning after the sac fly by Rivera.  He gave up a single to Eric Campbell that scored Granderson.  Kevin Plawecki was next at the plate and reached on a fielding error by Adonis Garcia.  Krol was able to get Travis d’Arnaud to ground out to Dansby Swanson.  Score is now 5-4, Braves still lead.

The man, Jim Johnson, came into the game for the Braves with a one-run lead.  Johnson was able to get Michael Conforto to ground out for one out.  Reyes struck out for two outs.  Cabrera did single, but we’ll pass that over.  For the final out, JJ was able to get Cespedes to strikeout.

How about That O?!?

Dansby Swanson went 2-4 with a run scored and is now batting .313 in his first 28 games in the pros.

More from Braves News

Ender Inciarte and Garcia both had three hits on Tuesday and both scored twice.  Garcia had three RBIs and continues to rank.  Freddie Freeman continues to swing a hot bat and even when he doesn’t get a hit, he’s hitting the ball hard.

Matt Kemp made a great accomplishment as he drove in Inciarte in the 6th inning to get his 100th RBI for the 2016 season.

“That’s one of my jobs is to drive in runs, but I’m just happy we got the win tonight,” Kemp said after the game.  “We’ve been playing against some good teams and we’ve been doing our jobs.  We’ve got to keep it going and go for the sweep tomorrow.”

The Braves did total all five of their runs in the 6th and 7th inning.  We were struggling to get anything going against Mets starter Robert Gsellman until the 6th.

The Braves are now 23-23 since the arrival of Matt Kemp.

“We’ve got a lot of guys that have been doing a great job…Freddie, Incairte, Adonis, Markakis, I can keep going…everyone’s been doing a great job and hopefully we just finish up strong this year.”

We’ve got a solid squad who’s playing hard right now, hopefully this will carry over to the 2017 season.

“I’m just proud and happy with how the guys are playing,” Snitker said following the game.  “We’re not playing like our record, we’re playing like we’re fighting for the division or the wildcard.  I can’t be more proud of the guys.  My hats of to them on how they come everyday.  They are leaving it all out there.”
