Annual Celebrity Shootout Golf Tournament November 11

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Want to meet some players/coaches within the Atlanta Braves organization?  This is a great opportunity.  Team fees are $400 and that includes lunch, post-tournament appetizers and a VIP welcome bag.  The golf course is located in Monroe, North Carolina.  I’m sure John Smoltz will be there.

The Rome Braves & Floyd County Police Department announce the Eighth Annual Celebrity Shootout Golf Tournament on Friday, November 11, 2016, at Stonebridge Golf Course. The tournament is set in a scramble format with a shotgun start at 11am and will feature current and former Rome and Atlanta Braves greats. A Par three hole will be deemed the Celebrity Shootout hole where a team can invite a celebrity to take a shot. Competing teams have the opportunity to purchase an extra shot at the Par 3 hole for the celebrity to hit a shot off the tee. This annual golf tournament has donated over $75,000 to local and National charities.

The proceeds from this year’s event will benefit the Animal Rescue Foundation of Rome and Floyd County. Animal Rescue Foundation of Rome Floyd & Floyd County was created in 2011 to provide vetting, facilitation and spray and neuter service for local abandoned animals. They provide transportation from animal control to the vet as well as treatment and stabilization including surgery and medication.

Dominican Winter League

On Saturday, Braves starting pitcher Matt Wisler pitched for the Tigres del Licey in the Dominican Winter League.  He threw four innings, gave up two hits, no runs, no walks and had three strikeouts.  I had not heard that Wisler would be pitching this fall/winter, but apparently he is.  I’m guessing because of the season that he had, the Braves would like to see him continue to work on his pitches.  During last offseason, Wisler worked with Tom Glavine on his changeup so maybe he’s spending time on the mound this offseason working on the same pitch.  I think this is a great thing for Wisler and the Braves as he’s not a guarantee to be in the Braves rotation in 2017.

Arizona Fall League

Many young players in the Braves organization are still playing in 2016 including Dylan Moore.  The Braves received Moore from the Texas Rangers when they sent Jeff Francouer to the Miami Marlins in the three-team trade.  Moore is hitting the ball and hitting the ball extremely well.  He’s now batting .467 after a 2-3 double, homer and walk day yesterday.  Moore is 24-years-old and hasn’t played above High-A ball, but impressed in the short time with the Braves in 2016 and already this fall.  He can play third, short, first and second base…the ultimate utility guy that we all know and love.
