Braves Rodriguez Shows Up To ST After Surgery

Almost a month following a very serious car accident, Sean Rodriguez shows up to the Atlanta Braves’ Spring Training facility.  The 31-year-old had surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff with labrum involvement in his left shoulder on Wednesday as well as to repair a biceps tendon.

Rodriguez will be out for a lengthy amount of time and could be for the entire 2017 season.  The Braves haven’t ruled him out for the year and neither has Rodriguez.

He told reporters on Sunday at the ESPN Wide World of Sports “if it were up to me, I’d be trying to play next month.  My goal is to get back as quickly as possible.”

The reporters at camp asked him about the January accident that injured his wife, two kids and himself.  Rodriguez said You see your whole family lying down on the ground and all you’re worried about is, ‘Are they OK?’”

This was an extremely scary situation and we’re all grateful that the Rodriguez family is still alive.  The man who stole the police car and collided with their SUV isn’t alive.

The Braves signed Rodriguez to a $11.5 million, two-year contract on Thanksgiving day.  The nine-year veteran plays many different positions on the field and the Braves were planning on using him at those multiple spots.

Next: Braves Have Phillips, Bench Questions Remain

When news broke about the injuries of Rodriguez and that he had to have surgery, the Braves and John Coppolella took action.  Coppy called the Cincinnati Reds again about second baseman Brandon Phillips.  The Reds and Braves agreed to send Phillips to Atlanta in exchange for LHP Andrew McKirahan and righty Carlos Portuondo.

We’ll keep an eye on the progress of Rodriguez to see if he’ll be able to make it back on the field this year.  Hopefully he can and would help us make a playoff run!
