Braves Starting Rotation To Begin 2017 Spring Training

We’ve been waiting very patiently for the past few months for baseball to be back and folks, it’s here!  The Atlanta Braves kick off their 2017 Spring Training season on February 25 against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Just a MLB fan and need a fix?  Games started today — Detroit, Boston and Philadelphia are all in action.

The Braves first game though is on Saturday at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.  Three out of the their first four games are at home.

On Thursday, the Braves released their starting rotation through the opening five games of the Spring Training season.

Without further ado, let’s take a look at our starters…

Saturday at home against the Blue Jays – Bartolo Colon

Sunday at home against the Astros – Julio Teheran

Monday on the road against the Tigers – R.A. Dickey

Tuesday at home against the Cardinals – Mike Foltynewicz

Wednesday on the road against the Yankees – Jaime Garcia

Dickey and Garcia will have to travel for their first start of the year.  Neither too far though.  Both the Tigers and Yankees spring training stadiums are on the upper west side of Florida.

In their first start of Spring Training, pitchers usually go two innings and then we see another starting pitcher follow them and then relief pitchers.  Each start, they will usually pick up an additional inning.  With Brian Snitker now at the helm, no word on if this is true, but I don’t see him changing.

We’ll probably see Matt Wisler, Aaron Blair and Sean Newcomb pitch the 3rd and 4th innings of these games.

Is it shocking to you that Bartolo gets the first game of the year?  It caught me off guard just a little bit.

Teheran has started opening day for the Atlanta Braves for three straight seasons and 2017 will most likely be his fourth.  I’m guessing they are giving the privilege of starting opening day spring training to Colon as a thank you for joining our team.

I really don’t mind that starting rotation order except for flipping Colon and Teheran.  I like Dickey in the third spot to break up the two righties and then the lefty Garcia in the fifth spot.  It actually makes a lot of sense.  A lot of people had Folty as our #5, but this order seems right to me.

The first game I’m seeing that will be broadcasted is the Wednesday game on the YES Network.  So that means we’ll get to see our first glimpse of what Garcia will bring to Atlanta!
