SunTrust Park officially ready for public five weeks out from opening

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Can you believe the time is here?  April 14th the Atlanta Braves will play in the brand new SunTrust Park.  After almost two and a half years since they started construction of the facility (September 2014), the doors will open.  The I’s are dotted and the T’s are almost crossed!  A look at the live feed, it looks as though still work needs to be done, but they’re getting close.  Still about a month and a half until the first game, I’m sure they’re right on schedule.  The Braves only play six games in April at the SunTrust Park so that they can figure out any little things to correct or fix.  This could be great later in the season when we’re playing for a playoff spot!!

"SunTrust Park was issued its Certificate of Occupancy, Cobb County announced on Friday. The stadium went through hundreds of inspections throughout 30 months. It passed all required inspections by Cobb County Building Department and the Cobb County Fire Marshal’s Office.Every building in the county is legally required to have a Certificate of Occupancy before the general public can occupy the structure."

Homer Simpson Will Be ‘Inducted’ Into National Baseball Hall Of Fame

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: I don’t know about you, but I’m a huge Simpsons fan.  Do you remember this episode with baseball greats — Darryl Strawberry, Ken Griffey Jr, Wade Boggs, Jose Canseco and many more.  This is when Homer was the “worst on the team”, but then won the championship for the team when he was hit with a pitch with the bases loaded.  The winning run scored and they carried Homer off with glory!!

"Turns out the National Baseball Hall of Fame honors more than just the game’s all-time greats, as Homer Simpson will be “inducted” on May 27. That’s right, the acclaimed TV series “The Simpsons” will be toasted in Cooperstown, N.Y., for the 25th anniversary of the cult-classic episode “Homer at the Bat.”According to the Hall of Fame, “The Simpsons” will be honored during a roundtable discussion at Hall of Fame Classic Weekend with an exhibit opening afterward.“In Cooperstown, we salute baseball’s greatest contributors, preserve its vast history and salute the cultural side of the sport,” Jeff Idelson, president of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, said in a press release. We are honored to pay tribute to the 25th anniversary of ‘Homer at the Bat.’ ‘The Simpsons’ has left an impressive imprint on our culture as the longest-running American sitcom, and ‘Homer at the Bat’ remains as popular today as when the episode aired in 1992. Baseball is recognized as our National Pastime due to its wide intersection with American culture over the last two centuries, evident in literature, theater, language, art, music, film and television. ‘The Simpsons’ is a perfect example of that connection to Americana.”"

Emilio Bonifacio was 2 for 2 and drove in two runs to help the Atlanta Braves beat Toronto 7-4 on Saturday in the Grapefruit League opener for both teams”>Bonifacio drives in two as Atlanta Braves top Blue Jays in Grapefruit League opener

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: So a lot happened in game number one of the 2017 Braves Spring Training season.  And it all started with Big Sexy!

Bartolo Colon started against the Yankees and went two innings, gave up three hits, one run and had one strikeout.  Colon said after the game that he “felt good and is ready for the fight”.

How about the Braves bullpen on Saturday?  Have to feel good about what Blaine BoyerMauricio Cabrera, Akeel Morris and Luke Jackson did on the mound.  Five innings, one run, four hits, two walk and six strikeouts between the four pitchers.  On Sunday, we’ll see three lefties out of the bullpen — Sam Freeman, Adam Kolarek and Eric O’Flaherty.

Because the game wasn’t televised, he are a couple clips you probably missed…including a Dansby Swanson/Brandon Phillips double play!

"Former Blue Jay Emilio Bonifacio was 2 for 2 and drove in two runs to help the Atlanta Braves beat Toronto 7-4 on Saturday in the Grapefruit League opener for both teams.Anthony Recker also drove in a pair for the Braves (1-0). Jace Peterson, Adonis Garcia and Tyler Flowers had the other RBI’s.Blaine Boyer got the win after 1 2/3 innings of relief. Bartolo Colon started for Atlanta, allowing one run on three hits with a strikeout in two innings in his Braves debut."
