Atlanta Braves Name Starting Rotation, No Surprises To Me
By Jeff Schafer
Braves Name Starting Five
The Atlanta Braves have announced their starting rotation to begin the 2017 MLB season. No real surprises here as we all were guessing these five would start the season in our rotation. Spring Training stats will not effect the rotation.
Braves season starts at Citi Field on April 3rd against the New York Mets. It’s a 1:10pm ET start time.
On the hill for that game will be….Julio Teheran!
This will be Teheran’s fourth consecutive opening day start for the Braves. Greg Maddux was the last Braves pitcher to start four straight opening days from 1993 to 1996.
Greg Maddux was the last Braves pitcher to start four straight opening days from 1993 to 1996. In all, Maddux had seven opening day starts for the Braves.
Al Javery from 1942 to 1945, Johnny Sain from 1946 to 1949, Warren Spahn from 1957 to 1962 and Rich Mahler from 1985 to 1988 are the only others to have four consecutive starts for the Braves organization.
The only pitcher to have more than four consecutive season-opening starts is Spahn. He had an impressive six-year stretch.
Teheran should have a pretty good chance now to have five next year.
Behind Teheran will be…
- Julio Teheran April 3 against the Mets
- Bartolo Colon April 5 against the Mets
- Jaime Garcia April 6 against the Mets
- R.A. Dickey April 7 against the Pirates
- Mike Foltynewicz April 8 against the Pirates
In my opinion, the Braves nailed this right on the head. Really no other options will the starting five, but I also agree with the order of these pitchers.
You’ve got Teheran, who is our number one, followed by Big Sexy, then our lefty. Next series you’ve got Dickey throwing the knuckleballs followed by the flamethrower Folty. Good luck hitters!
Next: Braves Add Minor League Righty Karl Triana
I’m ready for the season to start, anyone with me?!?
