Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: The Atlanta Braves took down the San Diego Padres in the very first (official) game at the SunTrust Park.  Julio Teheran got the start in front of a packed house and pitched great for the Braves.  His only issues came in the 2nd inning when he walked the leadoff batter.  Though he got the next batter to ground into a double play, the inning didn’t end there.  He hit Erick Aybar with a 0-2 pitch and then gave up three straight singles.  This scored two runs to tie the game.

The Braves fought back in the 4th inning when they loaded the bases for Teheran.  He helped himself by shooting a weak grounder up the middle which scored Jace Peterson.  Braves took the lead 3-2 and never looked back.

Atlanta added two more runs in the 6th inning when Ender Inciarte blasted a home run down the right-field line.

Teheran picked up the win, Jim Johnson picked up the save and the Atlanta Braves totaled their third win of the season!  For a full recap, check ours out here.

Braves’ new world is an experiment in baseball and business

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: 41,149 people were in attendance on Friday night for the Braves and Padres game.  Incredible turnout for the first ever game at SunTrust Park.  Hopefully, us Braves fans can keep that up!

So far, everything I’ve heard of the new park and The Battery has been exceptional reviews.  The new bars and restaurants outside of the park sound fun and reasonably priced.  Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to attend this event, but I’m getting down there soon.

The Braves lost their first game of the brand new Fulton County Stadium in 1966 and won their first game at Turner Field in 1997.  So not bad for the Braves, won two out of three in new stadiums.  In both 1966 and 1997, the Braves had winning records…we can only hope for that.

"“When I was walking out to warm up, there was a chance to look around,” said Braves starter Julio Teheran, who became the first pitcher to earn a win at SunTrust. “I saw all the fans and that they were excited, and it was that feeling of energy. But I was focused on doing my job and not looking around, because I was going to be sad [if we lost that first game].”It was a festive day in Cobb County, Georgia, the new home of the Atlanta Braves, who took on the San Diego Padres in their 2017 home opener and the first official game in their new venue. People mobbed the new bars and restaurants of The Battery, showing up early and staying late. Any reviews of the new park wouldn’t be complete without mentioning The Battery, a mixed-used development that combines a yet-to-open hotel that looms over center field, bars, restaurants, office buildings and apartments, of which some are still vacant. The Battery’s hotel will have high-dollar rooms on its stadium side, where guests can chill on a balcony and take in the ballgame. Really, The Battery is what marks this particular stadium project as distinct as any that came before it, and the success of it will likely determine the success of the entire endeavor."

Atlanta Braves begin new ballpark chapter at SunTrust Park

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Did anyone else get a little emotional during last night’s pregame?  Hate to admit this, but I did.  The Braves entertainment team did an amazing job putting this all together and making it seem flawless.

We saw Chipper Jones, Hammering Hank Aaron, Bobby Cox, Tom Glavine, Dale Murphy, Phil Niekro and John Smoltz come out to salute the fans.  That flyover was amazing.  Heck, everything seemed really cool.

As my brother and I watched from afar, he asked me if that was a strike when Hank Aaron threw the first pitch.  I looked at him with a death stare.  Of course, it was.  Like I said on twitter last night, someone tell me I’m wrong!

"As Chipper Jones hung out in the Atlanta Braves dugout Friday afternoon, a few hours ahead of the Braves’ first regular-season home game at their new stadium, SunTrust Park, the future Hall of Famer fielded a question about what fans might be saying as they entered the ballpark for the first time."

"“I would venture a guess the word mumbled the most — maybe not even mumbled — would be ‘Wow,'” the Braves’ icon said.“I mean, look at that video board. Look at the LED lights, the incredible green grass, this incredibly orange clay. They watch how balls fly out of here and they see the skyline and everything, and they say, ‘Wow.’ I said it. Everybody else is going to say it. …This is very impressive.”"
