Atlanta Braves News: The Morning Chop, Box Score, Freddie Freeman Breaks Record
By Jeff Schafer
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: This was definitely one of those games where we can all forget about it, or learn from it. Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Julio Teheran didn’t have his best stuff on Wednesday evening and the Washington Nationals made him pay.
In the 1st inning, Teheran shut down Adam Eaton and Anthony Rendon, but then Bryce Harper strolled to the plate. First pitch, he crushes one over the right/center field wall. The guy absolutely destroys Teheran. He has seven career home runs off Teheran which are the most against any other pitcher. I guess since we’re on the topic, Harper hit his second homer of the game off Teheran in the 3rd inning — this one hurt more as it was a grand slam.
The Nationals had two five-inning run innings on the Braves. That’s pretty difficult to keep up with. Until the second five-run inning, the Braves were actually in the game and I felt they could still come back. Then the second grand slam of the night came off of Ryan Zimmerman in the 8th inning against Ian Krol.
Bright spots for the Braves — Josh Collmenter threw three innings, gave up five hits, no runs, one walk and three k’s. Freddie Freeman stays hot and Nick Markakis is hitting the ball well.
Cold spots for the Braves — Ender Inciarte injured his wrist during batting practice when he slid unexpectedly in the outfield. He left the game early. Anthony Recker went 0-4 at the plate as well as an error behind the plate…on a passed ball, he tried to throw the ball behind his back, but it went nowhere close to the plate.

Freeman sets Atlanta record on home run
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: What Freddie Freeman has done over the past few games is pretty much unheard of. The man has reached base on 12 straight plate appearances, 12!! That’s insane. It feels as though some are looking over this stat. It’s hard enough to just get on base all plate appearances in a single game, Freeman did it in four and 1/2 dating back to the 6th inning of Sunday’s game. Freddie recorded seven hits and drawn five walks.
In 1978, Jeff Burroughs broke the record for consecutive on base plate appearances with 11. Then, Freddie crushed his record when he blasted the homer.
Last August, Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia reached base safely in 12 consecutive plate appearances.
"Freddie Freeman can now lay claim to having done something never previously accomplished in Atlanta Braves history. As for what he has achieved over the past 10 days — or even the past 10 months — there are countless Major Leaguers who only dream of generating that kind of production.Freeman extended one of the most impressive hot streaks of his career and secured another spot in the record book during Wednesday’s 14-4 loss to the Nationals at SunTrust Park. His third-inning solo homer off Joe Ross made him the first player in Atlanta Braves history to reach safely in 12 consecutive plate appearances.“It’s one of those streaks you really can’t explain,” Freeman said. “I’ve just been feeling pretty good. It was going to end sometime, I was hoping it wasn’t going to end tonight. I feel good up there. Hopefully I can keep it going tomorrow.”"
Young Couple in Stands Get It On at The Atlanta Braves Game
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Oh geez. Did SunTrust Park not come with room options? This couple obviously needs to be somewhere other than the ball park. The guy looks like he’s 15 beers deep and the girl, well yeah…
The Braves new park has many desirable attractions, but I’m not sure you can bring your own. Love is in the air, I guess, but I’m going to go with they just met that night.
Thanks? (maybe) Old Row Sports for capturing this magical memory. Hopefully, the two can look back on this and laugh.
"When love is in the air, anything can happen. But most don’t expect to see this type of love in such a public place.During a recent Atlanta Braves game, a young couple in the stands were feeling some type of way. So they began dry humping right there in the stands, as if thousands…wait, it’s a Braves game…I mean, hundreds of people weren’t right there to see them."
