The Braves could surely use some of the runs from last night for today but that’s not how sports work. Folty went 6 innings, striking out 6 while Freeman launched another home-run but it wasn’t enough to sweep the Brewers.

Last night was fun wasn’t it? Today wasn’t so much. The Atlanta Braves tried to get a sweep to bring home but the Brewers managed to out-score them today. Atlanta started the offense early in the game, scoring a run in the first when Matt Kemp singled to right to bring in Ender Inciarte. However the Braves would go cold after that until the 6th inning.

The Braves heat came from Mike Foltynewicz who was pitching mostly 95-96 mph all day. In the first inning Foltynewicz struck out the first 3 batters he faced. He would strike out 3 more over the next 3 innings while walking none and giving up no hits.

4. 76. 3. 17. Final

Foltynewicz teased the no-hitter up until the 5th inning when he gave up a huge solo home-run to Domingo Santana. The ball was super high, bouncing off the Miller Lite sign under the scoreboard.

In the 6th inning, with 2 outs, Freddie Freeman launched a solo bomb that dropped into the Right Field Patio area to give the Braves back the lead.

Swanson Dropped The Ball

The Braves lead was short-lived as the Brewers would score 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th, which proved just enough for them to get the win. Eric Thames hit a 1-out single to get it started.

After Ryan Braun grounded into a fielder’s choice, Hernan Perez would ground one as well but Dansby Swanson dropped the ball for an error.

This opened the door to allow Santana to get an at-bat. On the very first pitch, Santana homered to deep right-center, putting the Brewers up by 2.

In the 7th inning, the Brewers made multiple changes, first moving Thames to left field while putting Jesus Aguilar at first after Braun left the game.

After Jace Peterson and Dansby Swanson each hit 2-out singles, the Brewers replaced Matt Garza with Corey Knebel and substituted Manny Pina at catching. Garza pitched a good game as well, striking out 7 Braves. Up comes Brandon Phillips, pinch-hitting for Foltynewicz, driving home Peterson on a single to right.

Not Enough In The Offense Tank

Taking over pitching duties, Josh Collmenter did well out of the bullpen, striking out 4 over 2 innings. However, the Braves offense did not pick up again. In the 8th, the Brewers turned a “strike-’em-out-and-throw-’em-out” getting Kemp to chase and nabbing Freeman at 2nd.

In the 9th, after Nick Markakis walked, Kurt Suzuki grounded into a double-play and the hopes for Atlanta seemed to be over. Peterson popped up to short and it was done, ending the win streak at 4 games.

The Braves still take the series as they head home. They face the Mets again as a rematch between Julio Teheran and Robert Gsellman is set to happen.  Hopefully the offense continues to be hot and prove to be no fluke.
