Atlanta Braves News: The Morning Chop, Box Score, Lane Adams Crazy Wednesday
By Jeff Schafer
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: What happens when you have great pitching and timely hitting? You win ball games! And that’s just what happened for the Atlanta Braves on Thursday night. Braves starter R.A. Dickey pitched a fantastic game going seven innings, giving up three hits, one run and had eight strikeouts. The lone run he did give up was not until the 7th inning.
Braves offense got some timely hits from Nick Markakis, Matt Kemp, and Tyler Flowers. Kemp hit his 17th double of the 2017 season.
Here’s a question for you…I realize things would be totally different if Freddie Freeman never got injured and the Braves never traded for Matt Adams, but….what if Freddie was added to this lineup and the Braves played in the AL with the DH? We’d have a pretty exciting lineup!

OF Adams plays in Minors, MLB in one day
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Doubleheaders occur in baseball kind of frequently, but it’s not every day you see a baseball player play on two different teams in one day. That’s what happened with Braves outfielder Lane Adams on Wednesday. The 27-year-old played with the Gwinnett Braves during their afternoon game and went 2-4 with a run scored in their 6-0 victory
The 27-year-old played with the Gwinnett Braves during their afternoon game and went 2-4 with a run scored in their 6-0 victory. Then, he joined the Atlanta Braves that night and came in as a pinch-hitter to go 0-2 at the plate.
Following the Gwinnett game, Adams traveled 30 minutes back to his home in the Dunwoody area. Then the phone call from the Braves came around 5:20pm. He jumped back into his car and started heading back towards the stadium to get his gear.
Adams left Gwinnett’s Coolray Field around 6:15pm to begin the 35-minute hike to SunTrust Park…in Georgia’s great traffic. He got to the field a little after 7pm and was able to suit up for the Braves.
He did get into the game on Thursday, but expect him to be one of the first in line to get a pinch hitting duty (should be slightly behind Johan Camargo in my preference).
"At some point within the next few weeks, Lane Adams might have to pay a few fines levied by the Georgia State Road and Tollway Department. But this will simply add to the splendor of the story the Braves outfielder can always tell about the time he played in a Minor League and Major League game on the same day.“It was a crazy day, but I’d do it again if I had to,” Adams said. “I’ve had worse days, let’s say that. That was definitely one to remember.”“I remember driving back from the game in Gwinnett, and I saw all the traffic going the other way and I thought, ‘Oh, I’m glad I’m not sitting in that.’ Then an hour or so later, I’m sitting in it. But it was worth it.”"

Atlanta Braves to host Suntrust Park’s first LGBT Night
Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note: Good for the Atlanta Braves to do this event at SunTrust Park. On June 23, the Braves will host it’s annual LGBT night. The Hawks and the Atlanta Dream also host an event to show their support. This will be the second year for this event for the Braves.
"That night, the Atlanta Braves will host its annual LGBT Night — complete with rainbow souvenirs. It will be the first at the new stadium.Ben Nicoara, an Atlanta resident, attended the 2016 LGBT Night as part of the Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus, which was invited to sing at the event. He’s already got his tickets purchased for this year’s game.“I was a little surprised that that was even going on,” he said. “Last year they had a pre-game event and there was food and drink and stuff, and the chorus performed there and a few people spoke. It was a very welcoming environment and space, which isn’t typical in sports.”"
