After being swept at home by the Mets, the Braves went on the road Monday to open a series at Washington with the N.L. East leading Nationals.

Atlanta (28-35) picked up a rare win in the nation’s capital Monday night, getting back on track with a wild 11-10 win over the Nationals.

The Braves got things started early on offense, putting up three runs in the top of the first inning off Stephen Strasburg with a pair of homers from Nick Markakis and Matt Kemp.

The Braves, however, immediately let the Nationals back in it as Mike Foltynewicz allowed a pair of runs in the first and second innings.

Matt Adams slammed a three-run homer in the top of the third to put Atlanta back up 6-4, but the Nats answered again with another run in the bottom half of the inning to cut the lead to one.

Folty’s outfield had a rough fourth inning, as Ender Inciarte lost a ball in the lights, while Kemp and Markakis each came up short diving for line drives. Washington put up four runs in the inning, leaving the Braves to fight back.

Folty only made it 3 and a third, giving up eight runs on 11 hits. He walked two hitters, and didn’t record a single strikeout.

Neither team would score through the fifth, sixth, or seventh innings, but the Braves down 9-6 would mount a comeback in the eighth starting with Matt Adams’ second home run of the game. Inciarte drove in Rio Ruiz on a sacrifice fly to put the Braves within one.

Jason Motte kept the Nationals scoreless in the eighth, setting the stage for a three-run homer from Tyler Flowers to put Atlanta up 11-9.

Washington got another run in the bottom of the ninth, but Jim Johnson got out of trouble by popping up Bryce Harper to end the game.

Mott (1-0) got his first win as a Brave as reward for his scoreless eighth, and Johnson recorded lucky save number 13 on the season.
