Chipper Jones was out of the game in the ninth inning in favor of Brandon Hicks because of a sore groin. Jones is expecting to play in the series finale on Sunday but it is worth keeping an eye on. These things rarely just go away without having to have some sort of rest. For the season Chipper is hitting .226 with 2 homers and 7 RBI’s.

The groin strain that Jason Heyward suffered must be feeling better but the rookie is still likely to be relegated to pinch hitting duty on Sunday. Bobby Cox says that Heyward will likely return to the lineup for Monday’s series opener in Milwaukee.

Braves relievers combined to pitch 4.2 innings of hitless baseball on Saturday. The offense got a few runs across and the result was a much needed victory.

Braves outfielder Jordan Schafer continues his battle back from wrist surgery at the end of last season. Schafer is currently on a rehab assignment with the Rome Braves. Schafer is hitting .333 in five games with Rome. He should be moving back up the minor league ladder very soon.

Today’s pitching match up is Kenshin Kawakami (0-5, 5.47) against Cole Hammels (2-2, 4.42). Lets see if the Braves can overcome their struggles against left handed pitchers and get the victory today and garner a series win.
