There hasn’t been many times since April that the Braves have found themselves with a game out of reach. Despite Tommy Hanson‘s struggles early on, the Braves stayed in this one until the Brew Crew got to a rusty Kenshin Kawakami in the 8th inning. In the spirit of adding more bad news to a loss, Chipper Jones left this game with a mild hamstring strain and his status for Saturday’s game is unknown.

Tommy Hanson has settled into a trend of being either really good or really bad. He surrendered four runs (three earned) in just five innings of work. Ryan Braun hit his third career homer off of Hanson in the third. Hanson was hit in his left knee on a come back line drive in the second inning but said after the game that it didn’t hamper him.

Trailing 4-0, the Braves got their first run also in the fourth on a Troy Glaus RBI double that scored Jason Heyward. The Braves added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings on RBI singles by Brian McCann and Brooks Conrad.

Kenshin Kawakami however allowed three runs in the eighth in what was his first action since being removed from the starting rotation.

It was a pretty rough night for the home team but with the New York Mets being shut out by the Giants, the Braves didn’t lose any of their lead. Tim Hudson will be on the mound tonight in the third game of the series with the first pitch scheduled for 7:10 PM ET.
