7/29: Braves Minor League Scoreboard

Gwinnett 13, Rochester 6
Jose Ortegano: 4.1 IP, H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 5 K
Freddie Freeman: 2-3, 3 RBI, 2 BB
Barbaro Canizares: 3-5, 2B, 3 RBI
J.C. Boscan: 2-4, HR, 3 RBI
Nate McLouth: 2-5, HR, RBI

Ortegano gave up just one single, yet allowed three runs thanks to Cristhian Martinez, who served up all three after Ortegano left. He actually took a no-hitter into the fifth so it’s a much better performance than we’ve been seeing from him. Gwinnett’s offense went crazy for 17 hits. Besides those listed above, Matt Young went 3-5 with a double. Wes Timmons went 2-5 with a double and RBI. Brandon Hicks went 2-5. Gregor Blanco went 1-4 with an RBI and scored twice.

Mississippi 2, Huntsville 1
Erik Cordier: 7 IP, 5 H, ER, 4 BB, 10 K
Tim Collins: 2 IP, BB, 4 K
Jesus Sucre: 1-3, HR, RBI

Cordier pitched seven solid innings, only getting into trouble twice. He loaded the bases in the first but got out of it, and a double and single led to his only run allowed in the sixth. He walked four and three of them came in those two innings (one intentional), and he allowed just the one double. Oh yeah, he struck out ten. Sucre hit his first homer for Myrtle Beach and Luis Bolivar added an RBI.

Rome 7, Asheville 6

Todd Cunningham: 3-4, 2B, 2 RBI
Joe Leonard: 2-5, 2B, RBI
Christian Bethancourt: 2-4, 2B, RBI
Jake Hanson: 2-4, 2B, RBI
Riaan Spanjer-Furstenburg: 2-5, RBI

Masters went the deepest he has in a while, yet wasn’t much better, walking four and striking out four while allowing three runs. I’m just not seeing much out of his numbers to get excited about. The hitters listed above were the entire offense for Rome. Edward Salcedo is down to .205 with an 0-4 night. Gotta fight through those early struggles and be patient.

Princeton 7, Danville 1
Kyle Farrell: 6 IP, 9 H, 6 ER, 3 K
David Filak: 1 IP, H, ER, BB, K
Jarred Frierson: 1-3, 3B

Farrell gave up four doubles so that might explain six runs allowed. At least he didn’t walk anybody. He was coming off three earned runs allowed in his last 14 innings. Filak made his first appearance since returning from the DL and was rusty, walking the leadoff batter, letting him get to second on a wild pitch and third on a balk, and he scored on a passed ball.

GCL Blue Jays 4, GCL Braves 3
Ian Marshall: 6 IP, 8 H, 2 ER, 4 K
Matt Lipka: 1-5, RBI, SB

Marshall continues to see-saw in his starts, struggling with one and pitching great the next. He served up two homers but otherwise pitched good today. The bad starts have upped his ERA to 4.65.

I just like typing their names. Gil has a 1.61 ERA.
