Leader – the person who leads or commands a group, organization, or country.

The conversation about who will become the Atlanta Braves “leader” has been on the tip of every Braves fan since Chipper Jones has retired.  But no need to worry….after the offseason we had, the Braves have found their leader.

Justin Upton?  No…doesn’t portray that he’d like a leadership role

B.J. Upton?  HA! No…

Craig Kimbrel?  Possibly, but a bullpen guy would be tough

Dan Uggla?  No…just no

Kris Medlen?  No…injuried

A few weeks ago, Freddie Freeman spoke on being the team leader….

"I’m not a very vocal guy as you guys see in the club house, I just go through and try to put the work in and go out stick to my routine and play hard every single night.  I think Jason is more of the vocal guy and I think having him around the next two years will definitely help.  I’m more of a guy that hopefully you follow by example, I go out and play with a passion and work really hard at being the best I can every single night.  That is the type of leader I envision myself being.  I’m not the rah-rah guy, I just go about my business and hope these guys follow.  I think that’s how Chipper was and that’s how Brian and I think I can also step into that role too."

So it’s Jason Heyward’s team for now while Freeman leads by example on the field.

What do leaders do?

We now know what Heyward does…

That’s awesome and a very nice gesture that he didn’t have to do.  It did make me wonder though, didn’t some of these guys get a PS4 around Christmas time?  If they he to find a good home for this new one, I think I know of one.
