The Outcome Of The Jon Lester And Atlanta Braves Discussions

The Atlanta Braves front office met with starting pitcher Jon Lester on Thursday afternoon over lunch and an afternoon of explaining that this Braves team can compete in the upcoming seasons.

The left-hander went 16-11 with a 2.46 ERA in 2014 with 220 strikeouts while pitching for the Boston Red Sox and Oakland Athletics.

Lester, who will turn 31-years-old in January, has reportedly been offered a contract by the Red Sox for six years $110-120 million.  The Chicago Cubs are also in the mix to sign Lester.

Currently, the Braves are probably a shot in the dark with signing Lester but he does have ties to Georgia.  His wife and two boys have an offseason home near Peachtree City.

As we’ve talked about for weeks now, Lester joining the Braves starting rotation would be substantial to any success in 2015.

Hopefully John Hart and the rest of the Braves front office made a great impression with Lester on Thursday but reports are coming out that the Braves did NOT make an offer to Lester.

Does this mean the Braves won’t?  Maybe…but I think it’s still a possibility they make Lester an offer but the point of the meeting wasn’t to offer him money and sign a contract.
