Unequal’s Gyro helmet liner the latest in military-grade football protection

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note:  Is this a possibility for not only football but baseball?  This liner inside players helmets could prevent head injuries.  Concussions are more common in football but they exist in baseball as well.  Catchers and hitters could move in this direction for their helmets in the upcoming years.  Take a look at this article on Sports Illustrated for more information.

"A Pennsylvania-based company known as Unequal touted the matchup as the first time two opposing high schools would meet in a Texas State High School football championship game with supplemental protection — a product Unequal calls Gyro — inside their helmets. The quarter-inch thick liner, which sells for $60, is made of a military grade composite — strengthened by Kevlar and Accelleron — which absorbs and disperses impact energy away from the head and body in a way that typical padding of equal weight and thickness cannot. With growing concerns about traumatic head injuries in football, there are already coaches calling for this type of added protection to be mandated at all levels."

Five questions for Braves as we start 2015

Tomahawk Take Editor’s Note:  For Anniston Star to narrow the amount of questions that the Braves have for 2015 down to five is kind of impressive.  Atlanta has many “if’s and whats” heading into the spring months but all these questions can be answered.

So about second base … who is going to be the starter there?

"Well, Callaspo and Peterson are the most likely candidates. But it will be worth keeping a close eye on minor leaguer Jose Peraza this spring.Peraza was the Braves Minor League Player of the Year in 2014 when he posted 33 extra base hits and 60 steals at two minor league stops. He would be answer to the leadoff conundrum as well. Atlanta has a history of being aggressive with its young talent (Rafael Furcal jumped to the majors from A-ball, Steve Avery, Heyward, etc.), but it should be noted they were aggressive with many of those players because the team was built to win in those years. It makes the most sense that Peraza would start the year in the minors with a summer call-up most likely, especially with Atlanta building to 2017 and the opening of its new park. But Peraza could force the issue with a big spring."
